MHLS presents the 3 instruments to Jim Jefferis and Chris Angove at the NCI station St Agnes Head.   

St Agnes Head NCI station have just taken delivery of a number of digital Surveyors Theodolites which have been kindly donated by Malcolm Hughes Land Surveyors.

The theodolites were up for disposal as no longer functioning but were subsequently offered to St Agnes Head NCI as an aid to reporting contacts and incidents at sea.

Before delivery, the equipment was comprehensively checked and totally refurbished at no charge by Korec Group of Huntingdon to ensure that they were fit for purpose and fully functional.

This addition to the lookout equipment will permit watch-keepers to increase the accuracy in range and bearing reporting of incidents and emergencies which may occur within the observation area, thus enabling our emergency services partners to reduce the time taken in providing assistance to anyone in trouble.

Last summer Volunteer Watch-keeper Chris Angove approached MHLS Land Surveyor Jon Grigg asking how more accurate bearings and distances could be obtained from their St Agnes Head station. Jon was able to locate 3 non-working instruments (2 Trimbles and a Geodimeter 600) that were due to be binned from Swansea and gained permission to try to get them repaired.
In October Jon was able to arrange a free repair, service and upgrade for all 3 instruments through Korec Group – who’s Engineer John Salter even remembered working on that actual Geodimeter 20 years ago!
